It's a Girl!

Written by Shabba Wednesday, 14 September 2011 14:02

Things may slow down a bit for the rest of the year, but for very good reasons.  Just last week, my wife and I welcomed our third child into this world.  Any of you parents out there understand all too well how this impacts any life that you were accustomed to before.

Radley Beam JohnsonIts an exciting time though.  Matt & Brett are hunkered down in grad school while Mitch is out there shaking hands and introducing the locals to the band.  We have some new songs that we are currently writing and that is always a plus.  That means the well isn't running dry.  Quite the contrary.  We are invigorated and pumped up with some of these new tunes.  Mitch was able to attend the 2nd annual Hopscotch festival and is more determined than ever after seeing some great bands (Flaming Lips, Bandway, The Generationals).  That's inspiration right there folks!

We'll continue to post downloads of the week.  Sometimes a cover, sometimes an original.  So keep coming back and take a stroll around the website and hopefully we can keep some fresh content going for you.  Take care.

The Cover Project

Written by oatmealmitch Monday, 29 August 2011 23:04

Hello peeps.  Hope everyone has dried out from Irene's run up the East Coast.  I wanted to get everyone up to speed on the recent release of cover tunes in the Listening Room.  We have decided to learn a new cover every week.  This project includes learning the tune, rehearsing, and recording....all in just 1 hour.  Yep, that's right, I said 1 hour.  We have one week to listen to the chosen cover.  We set the timer at the beginning of rehearsal and have to be done with the "Cover" section of rehearsal after 1 hour.  It's a fun challenge and hopefully you guys will enjoy it.   We're taking requests from our fans, but are also using this as a way to play some of our favorite songs as well.  The recordings may lack a little "polish" due to the time constraints, but these are meant to be quick and dirty.

Let us know what you like and feel free to email us your song suggestions.  Some of the artists we're going to be playing in the next couple of months include the Grateful Dead, Pixies, G-Love, Dead Milkmen and whoever else we choose.

So check back here or on Facebook every week.  New songs should be posted no later than Friday.  Let us know what you think.

au revoir, peewee.

Rock'n'Roll Sax is BACK!!

Written by oatmealmitch Wednesday, 27 July 2011 21:50

Hello peeps!  It's been a good summer so far, but it is quickly fading.  However, I am as excited as I have ever been because the Rock'n'Roll Saxophone solo is BACK!!!  HELL YEAH!!!!  Now, I know what you're thinking.  Clarence Clemons died this year.  How in the HELL could this happen?  I assure you the irony is not lost on me.  However, the writing is on the shimmering, glitter and mascara painted wall.  Lady Gaga and Katy Perry each have hit singles with, that's right, BITCHIN' sax solos.  You might as well harken back to those sexy days of the late 80's because we reed ticklers are climbing back to the top of the charts.  This was bound to happen.  I mean, with indie rockers trying to emulate the new-wave sound of the 80's, the mainstream had to channel that same era.

So lucky you.  It just so happens that The Oatmeal Conspiracy is blessed with quite the sax player (namely MOI).  You'd better strap on your headbands and slip into those jelly shoes, because I'm gonna bring you those sexy (or should I say Sax-y?) sounds until my star burns bright!  Sorry guys, if I get the call from Britney, I'm gonna have to take it.  You know how it is.

I included some of the best sax solos i've ever seen/heard for your enjoyment below.

Bandcamp: Bargain Hunters & Audiophiles Unite!!

Written by Shabba Monday, 28 February 2011 15:04

bandcampAh yes.  We live in a time where digital media rules the world.  I remember exploiting the "analog hole" back in the day with my dual deck boom box.  Whether I was copying a cassette tape, CD, or a radio broadcast, it was exciting to capture a bit of media for my own personal use and also make the almost-extinct mix-tape.

It comes as no surprise that record companies and labels have had a hard time putting the lid back on Pandora's box since then.  DRM as been a failed policy.  Various websites and services that share media have been shut down.  No matter what has been implemented, a savvy internet culture has always come out with another way to skirt the music industry model.

All of this brings us to the announcement that The Oatmeal Conspiracy can now be found on yet another corner of the world wide web:  Bandcamp.  It's not that Bandcamp is some illegitimate red-headed step child in musical circles, it's exactly the opposite.  It should be the shining city on the hill that makes industry types shake in their boots.  It puts the power back into the hand of the bands and the most important counterpart, their fans.

Simply put, you can purchase our music now from this site, in addition to iTunes and Amazon.  The beauty about Bandcamp is that you have more options now.  You can stream the entirety of all of our songs.  No more 30 seconds samples to decide if you would like to buy.  If you are a complete nerd when it comes to audio and quality (guilty!), FLAC is an option for you.  If you don't care all that much about fidelity, you can download MP3s at lower bitrates.  Prices are slightly discounted as well, and we have a free download of Shady Shack.  And if you are feeling generous, you are always welcomed to "name your price" for anything you download.

So without the risk of sounding like a paid advertisement, head on over to Bandcamp to see what its all about.  At the end of the day, its just another choice for you to consider.  Some people may prefer the simplicity of iTunes, but we are trying to cover all the basics and differing needs of our fans.  We accept and understand that some may exploit the analog hole of our songs streaming, but so be it. We are not running away from ears that want to hear us.  Heck, add us to your mix-tape that you are currently working on and share it with your friends.  We'll still love you.

Follow this link here for goods.  Until next time.
